Sports Car GT With Manuel (PS1)
Sports Car GT for the PlayStation 1, released in North America on March 31, 1999, and in Europe in 1999, is a racing simulation game developed by Point of View and published by Electronic Arts. It aimed to bring the excitement of real-life sports car racing to the console, featuring a mix of simulation and slightly arcade-style gameplay. The game offered players the chance to race a variety of licensed sports cars from renowned manufacturers such as BMW, McLaren, Porsche, Panoz, Vector, Mosler, Callaway, Lister, and Saleen. These cars often featured their specific liveries from the 1997 and 1998 IMSA GT Championship seasons, adding a layer of authenticity for fans of the sport.
The gameplay in Sports Car GT on the PS1 features two main single-player modes: Season (or Career) and Arcade (or Quick Race), with the European release also including a Time Trial mode. In the Season mode, players start in the GT Qualifying class (GTQ) with a starting budget to purchase their first car. By competing and finishing in the top three of races across four GT classes (GTQ, GT3, GT2, and GT1), players earn more money to upgrade their vehicle's components like brakes, suspension, and exhaust, or to buy entirely new cars. Performance can be further tweaked by adjusting brake bias, suspension settings, ride height, and downforce. The game features a selection of real-world tracks, including iconic circuits like Sebring International Raceway, Road Atlanta, and Laguna Seca Raceway, alongside some fictional courses. A two-player multiplayer mode was also included, featuring Head to Head races, Pace Car mode, and a “Pink Slip” mode where the winner takes the loser's car.
