Trivial Pursuit (Nintendo Wii)
Electronic Arts brought the classic board game to the Nintendo Wii in 2009 with a video game adaptation of Trivial Pursuit. The game sought to modernize the familiar formula while retaining the core trivia challenge. One of the most significant changes was the shift from open-ended questions to multiple-choice, which made the game flow more quickly and appeal to a wider audience. The Wii's motion controls were used for simple actions, such as shaking the Wii Remote to “roll” the virtual die and pointing at the screen to select answers. The game's presentation was clean and colorful, though it lacked the ability to use Mii characters, a common feature in many Wii titles.
Beyond the standard “Classic” mode, the Wii version of Trivial Pursuit introduced new gameplay modes to add variety. “Facts & Friends” mode was a fast-paced game show-style variation where players earned points not just by answering their own questions, but also by correctly guessing whether their opponents would get their questions right. Another mode, “Clear the Board,” offered a single-player challenge to earn all six wedges by answering questions on a limited number of spaces. While the game was praised for its robust question library and new modes that added replayability, it was criticized for a few drawbacks, most notably the lack of online multiplayer, which was a missed opportunity for a game of this genre.
