Nascar 99 With Manuel (PS1)
NASCAR 99, released on the PlayStation 1 in North America on September 22, 1998, and in Europe on October 23, 1998, was the second installment in the EA Sports NASCAR series. Developed by Stormfront Studios, it aimed to deliver an authentic NASCAR experience, featuring drivers and tracks from the 1998 Winston Cup Series season. The game included 31 real-life drivers and six legendary drivers, allowing players to step into the shoes of their favorite racers. It also featured 17 accurately recreated NASCAR tracks, including famous speedways like Atlanta Motor Speedway, Sears Point, and Michigan International Speedway.
NASCAR 99 offered various gameplay modes, including a career mode where players could compete through seasons, and a single-race mode for quick action. A key aspect of the gameplay was the emphasis on car setup, as players needed to adjust their vehicles to optimize performance for each specific track. The game featured a semi-realistic damage model, where collisions could affect the car's handling and lead to tire blowouts, adding an element of strategy to avoid excessive contact. Commentary was provided by Benny Parsons and Bob Jenkins, enhancing the broadcast-style presentation. While the core racing involved mastering the racing line and managing speed through turns, the depth of car customization and the inclusion of real-world elements aimed to provide a more immersive and authentic NASCAR simulation for PlayStation owners.
