Max Power Racing With Manuel (PS1)
Max Power Racing, released on the PlayStation 1 primarily in Europe starting in December 1998, is an arcade-style racing game developed by Eutechnyx and published by Infogrames. Notably, in the UK, it was released as a tie-in with the popular UK car tuning magazine Max Power, featuring the magazine's branding and reflecting the modified car culture it showcased. In other parts of Europe, the game was released under the title C3 Racing: Car Constructors Championship.
The game offers players the chance to race a variety of licensed production cars from manufacturers like Toyota, Renault, Mitsubishi, and Marcos across 11 international locations. These aren't necessarily the heavily modified cars often featured in Max Power magazine, but rather recognizable road cars. Max Power Racing features both Arcade and Championship modes, supporting single-player and split-screen multiplayer. Arcade mode allows players to unlock new tracks and cars by winning races across locations like India, Peru, Norway, and Rome. Championship mode involves competing in four different seasons with GTI and high-performance vehicles, earning points to become the champion and unlock further content. The game includes varying weather conditions, night racing with working headlights, and a degree of car damage, blending arcade excitement with some simulation elements. In North America, a significantly different version of the game was released as TNN Motorsports Hardcore TR, featuring fictional pickup trucks and US-based tracks.
